Valerie Bertinelli and Mike Goodnough split after revealing ‘challenging’ aspect of relationship

Valerie Bertinelli and boyfriend Mike Goodnough have called it quits.

After having dated for 10 months, Valerie Bertinelli and Mike Goodnough decided to go their separate ways. A source confirmed “they are no longer in a relationship” to People on Tuesday.

News of the former couple’s split comes days after Goodnough shared cryptic quotes to his Instagram Story.

“If you can go a whole day without talking to me, then go another,” one quote read. “If someone is fine without you, then let them be fine without you,” another stated.

However, the following day Goodnough claimed the quotes weren’t “real-time coded subtweets” about his current situation and even went as far as blaming the algorithm for not showing him more diverse posts.

“Sometimes the things I post strike a chord with me because they have some recent relevance or relate to things that have been on mind. Even when that is the case, my reason for posting them is because I see some value in them beyond my own experience – not because I’m trying to send super secret messages about what is going on with me or in my life that people need to use a decoder ring to figure out.”

Who is Mike Goodnough?

Bertinelli and Goodnough, a lifestyle writer, began dating in January 2024, after having been friends for some time.

“I thought he was interesting,” Bertinelli told People in April. “It was strictly platonic, but there was something about him that I connected with that felt familiar. A comfort level. He felt like a kindred spirit.”

It wasn’t until the cookbook author made an appearance on The Drew Barrymore Show that their relationship became public. “He was not supposed to come into my life and here he is. He’s 10 years younger.”

Shortly after Goodnough commented on it too.

“I am Valerie Bertinelli’s boyfriend… and that may well be among the most surreal sentences I’ve ever pecked out. But it’s true… and nothing about our actual relationship seems surreal. It just seems… good… lucky… a gift,” he wrote on his Substack.

Although each live on separate coasts, they tried their best to go no longer than three weeks without seeing each other. Over the summer, Bertinelli admitted it had been “challenging.”

“The summer has been booked full. It is challenging.”

While she did gush about Goodnough on social media, she wanted to keep her relationship more private.

“A part of me is just like, it’s been so public and now I’m trying to pull back and make it so much less public, and try to keep some stuff for us now,” she said. “It’s like, ‘Oh, but, yeah, I let the cat out of the bag.’ I don’t know. I would like to start keeping it between us and make it a little bit more special.”
