Kylie Minogue has led an illustrious life. Popularly regarded as the “Princess of Pop” by the European media, the singer holds one of the longest successful music careers. Her stint in the music industry spans several decades, and she has had several record-breaking moments in her career, including being the first female artist whose albums would top the charts in the UK for five consecutive decades.
Minogue’s rise to fame wasn’t from her music, though. She first became popular as a teen star in the Australian soap opera “Neighbours” where she played Charlene Robinson, a feisty tomboy mechanic girl in a relationship with her on-screen boyfriend and later husband, Scott Robinson, played by Jason Donovan. The show was popular with viewers who particularly liked Minogue’s character and her relationship with Scott.
Despite the fame Minogue garnered in the soap opera, she had fallen in love with music and wanted to concentrate on it fully, so she left “Neighbours” in 1988. Being on the show proved helpful at the start of her career, but her talent and nasal soprano voice soon shone through, making her renowned for her skills.
Meanwhile, Minogue has sold over 80 million records worldwide, but that hasn’t shielded her from criticism for lack of talent. Unfortunately, the criticisms sometimes feed Minogue’s insecurities over her vocal abilities. However, she told Vogue that she fights the voices in her head, knowing she wouldn’t be successful if she truly can’t sing.
Besides singing, Minogue is also a style icon. The songwriter modeled a sultry look for the cover of Perfect Magazine in a black swimsuit on Aug. 5, 2023, and fans couldn’t stop talking about how incredible she looked. Continue reading to know how Minogue has been over the years.
Other than being a singer, Minogue is also an entrepreneur. The “Padam Padam” singer runs her own very successful wine company. She started the company in 2020, and in three years, the brand, Kylie Minogue Wines, has grown to include nine wine varieties sold in 10 countries, including France, Italy and Spain. Prosecco, a best seller in the UK, is one of her wine types that is doing quite well in the market.
The musician also owns a lingerie brand called Love Kylie. She is a serial entrepreneur who makes perfumes, furniture and books. Incredibly, Minogue is a philanthropist. Besides fundraising for earthquakes and tsunamis in Haiti and Japan and bushfires in Australia, she supports 18 charities and foundations, including Children in Need, DKMS and Breast Cancer Campaign.
The singer had breast cancer in 2005 when she was 36, which prevented her from having children after being medically induced into premature menopause as part of her treatment. She told Sunday Times Style Magazine:
“I was 36 when I had my diagnosis. Realistically, you’re getting to the late side of things. And, while that wasn’t on my agenda at the time, (cancer) changed everything.”
Nevertheless, Minogue remained optimistic.
“I’m 50 now, and I’m more at ease with my life,” she said. “I can’t say there are no regrets, but it would be very hard for me to move on if I classed that as a regret, so I just have to be as philosophical about it as I can. You’ve got to accept where you are and get on with it.”
She also shared that she is open to adopting or becoming a stepmother.
